Open Broadcaster or OBS as it’s called is probably the best free screen recorder. It’s available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The downsides with OBS is that it sometimes consumes a bit too much computer resources and for some people who maybe don’t have the best computer it can get a bit laggy. OBS is also somewhat difficult to set up for a beginner. So here I will tell you how you can record your gameplay even with your low-end pc.
So in this tutorial, we’re going to be using a game recording software for Windows PCs called FBX. It can record Full HD footage at up to 120 frames per second with high quality. The advantage FBX has over OBS Studio is that it is much simpler to set up and use. It also has virtually no lag at all at least for me and I have a crappy old laptop.
FBX Game recorder is unfortunately only for recording video games. If you want to also record your desktop or set up a live stream then I will also post a tutorial about this in a few days. So, first of all, you need to download your free copy of the FBX Game Recorder. Click here to download FBX Game Recorder. After downloading and installing it you will need to sign up for an account to activate FBX but this also free and easy to do.
How To Use FBX Game Recorder?
Now that you’ve installed and activated FBX. It’s time to take a look at the settings. Open the app and click on the settings tab. In the general section, you can choose your encoder, framerate or FPS, quality, and output resolution. You can also choose whether or not to record your mouse cursor which may be useful in some games like League of Legends or DOTA.
In the sound and webcam section, you can configure your audio input options. For example, you can choose if you want to record your microphone as well as your in-game audio. Then you can also enable webcam recording along with your game footage.
To assign your keyboard shortcuts, go to the hotkeys section. In the overlay section, you can enable options such as your framerate or recording duration to be overlaid while you’re playing a game. These overlays won’t appear in your actual video recording though.
In the recordings folder section, you can choose where your video files will be saved.
Finally, in the captures tab, you can see all of your recordings and also preview them.
To start recording with FBX make sure the software is running and open up a video game. Once you’ve started the video game and you’re ready to record just go ahead and press the recording hotkey which is f7 for me. When you want to stop recording press the hotkey again. The default hotkey for grabbing screenshots on FBX is a print screen. By the way, the video clips will be saved as mp4 files. So you probably won’t need to convert them to any other video format in order to import the clips to your video editor.
FBX Game Recorder is easy to use gameplay recorder for pc. You can even record your gameplay with your low-end pc.
